January 31'th. 2015 20 years passed, but I remember
Two more compositions from the concert "Cinemusic: Nino Rota and Isaac Schwarts": fragments from Rota's score for the film "Rocco and his brothers" (dir. Luchino Visconti) and Waltz by Isaac Schwarts for the film "The Captivating Star of Happiness" (dir. Vladimir Motyl).
About Rota's score I can say that discovered something recently. Eduard Artemyev, another outstanding Russian composer, most likely borrowed from "Rocco" some ideas in instrumentation and melody for the his own score for Nikita Mikhalkov's film "Barber of Siberia". Who cares - will find it out.
And there's a memory about Schwarts's Waltz. When I was studying in music school, our orchestra conductor gave me the score of this waltz just to have a look. I spent the whole day playing it on a piano in amazement how such a simple musical notation can touch so deeply my heart. In addition, this music contrasted with the repertoire that I played on accordion those days. For the better, of course.
I took a break for a few minutes then and went out of the room (to drink some tee or something), and when returned, the score wasn't on the piano. It was stolen - the most bitter loss of music score in my life. 20 years have passed probably, but I remember.
